This type of visa is similar to the Medical Treatment (Short Stay) visa. It allows you to travel to Australia for medical treatment or medical consultations except surrogate motherhood. You could choose to apply for this visa if you plan to travel to Australia to donate an organ, you are in Australia, aged over 50, and have been refused a permanent visa only on the grounds of health or if you will accompany or provide support to a person needing treatment.

Unlike the Medical Treatment (Short Stay) visa, you have to pay a non-refundable visa application fee when you lodge your application. But with this visa, you can visit Australia for a period of between 3 and 12 months and study for up to three months. You are not allowed to work with this type of visa. You must leave Australia before your visa expires but you may apply for an extension based on your circumstances.

The requirements and documents needed for a Medical Treatment (Long Stay) visa are reasonably the same as the Medical Treatment (Short Stay) visa.
