eVisitors Visa

As we are prohibited to give individual advice, please consider all information generic and seek professional help from Migration Agents for individual advice.Click here to find a list of Migration Agents that can help you lodge your application.

An eVisitor is similar as the ETA and can be used when you are outside Australia and want to visit for tourism or business purposes. It is an electronically stored authority for travel to Australia. You can apply for an eVisitor online and do not need to apply at a departmental office. There is no application charge or service fee. There is no label or stamp in your passport but you will be given a confirmation email for your records. You must have an eVisitor eligible passport. Your eVisitor is linked to your passport number so you have to use the same passport to travel to Australia.

It lets you stay in Australia for up to three months on each visit within a 12 month period from date of approval. An eVisitor cannot be extended. You have to apply for a different type of visa if you wish to extend your stay in Australia.

How to Apply for an eVisitor

Since an eVisitor can only be applied online, you will be asked to provide details of your valid eVisitor eligible passport when you start your online application. Your passport must be valid for at least six months at time of application. You have to provide a current valid email address. If you do not receive an email from the Department within 12 hours of lodging, you may check the status of your application. If there are children travelling with you, they must also complete an online application form. Most eVisitor applications are approved quickly. But if your application has to be referred to the Department for manual assessment, it would take 2-10 working days for finalization.

The Department will notify you by email that your eVisitor application is granted. You have to keep this notification with you when you travel to Australia because it has your eVisitor grant number, the validity of your eVisitor and the conditions of your eVisitor. Since there will not be any visa label or stamp in your passport, the airline staff at the airport will electronically confirm that you can travel to Australia. But if your eVisitor application is refused, the Department will also notify you by email giving you the reasons why it is not granted.

What are, in general, the eVisitor conditions:

  • You must not study or have training for more than three months;
  • You must be free from tuberculosis at the time of travel to, and entry into, Australia;
  • You must not have any criminal convictions;
  • You must not engage in any work while in Australia.

(Check your individual conditions, as the above are only general conditions.)
