100 points of ID
Most legal transactions require some form of identification. In some cases, 100 points of ID is required which means that for certain documents you’ll get a fictive number of points. The more reliable the ID the more points you will get.
Especially in the beginning it’s sometimes hard to satisfy these rules. And as there are many companies using slightly different variations of the 100 point scheme, it’s sometimes taken puzzling to make it work.
In Australia a Driver’s License appears to be the most trusted form of ID, as even the government agencies do not trust their own passports as much as the Driver’s License!
Anyway: here is a quite elaborate and accurate list. It’s the “Government Account Opening Rules” found on the NAB (National Australia Bank) website.
100 Point Check Method
Under the Australian Government’s Financial Transaction Reports Act, strict regulations are imposed on all banks and other cash dealers to identify new customers. These regulations require anyone wanting to open an account to provide sufficient identification to score 100 points. Different types of identification provide differing amounts of points. For instance, if you have already completed a 100 point check for a NAB account, you don’t need to go through the process again – as long as we have a record of that 100 point check. If you are already a customer with the NAB, you’ll have a head start towards your 100 points. However, if you are opening an account at the NAB for the first time you will need to do the 100 point check – and provide a combination of the following:
